I met a lovely lady in my previous job who suffered from dementia - most days that I saw her she would ask me where I was from and when I replied Blyth she would tell me about her fiancé.
She went to Blyth to see him off in a submarine during the war and he never came back. She went on to marry after the war and have children, but never forgot her first love
This morning was the submariners' remembrance service and every year I attend this event and think of those who have given their all but I also remember those whose lives were changed by war.
